On Tuesday 27th November, Years 5 and 6 from Hatherop Castle School in Cirencester arrived at Badminton for a day of Science and Drama. After a delicious Badminton lunch and a run around in the gym, everyone settled down for a spectacular science demonstration put on by four of our Sixth Form Scientists. The demonstration was about liquid nitrogen and the Sixth Formers shared what happens when items, including a balloon, a bunch of flowers and Blu-Tac, were put into a bowl of liquid nitrogen. Many gasps came from the audience as several of the pupils were asked to test the frozen objects by hitting them with a hammer! The finale was by far the most popular, however, as the liquid nitrogen was used to make strawberry ice-cream and everyone had the chance to taste the outcome!
Following this excitement, everyone headed to the Hall to watch the Year 9 Drama Club’s production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Everyone was impressed by the performance which kept the visitors intrigued and
entertained throughout. Before long, it was time to board the bus and head back to school and everyone left
discussing which part of the day had been their favourite. A big thank you to Mr Williams, Mr Gentry and all the Sixth Formers and Year 9s who participated and helped to make the day such a memorable one for Hatherop Castle.
