Badminton School

Co-Curricular Activities

There is a wide variety of co-curricular activities that girls can take up in addition to their core academic work. This gives them an opportunity to develop their interests and try something they’ve not experienced before. These activities compliment the academic curriculum and ensure a well-rounded education.  No matter what your daughter’s interests are, there will be a club she can get involved in and new clubs she can experience.

Each week we have Friday Afternoon Activities where the girls try something new, changing each half term. This can include riding horses, making jewellery and pottery, trying street dance or origami, doing yoga or joining the Book Club. They can also take part in Bushcraft, learning a range of survivalist skills such as fire lighting, den building, and using bladed tools.

Girls can also take part in a range of after-school clubs that include art, craft, a variety of different dance classes and fencing.

We take girls for trips into Bristol and beyond, and we also invite writers, poets and theatre companies to visit us.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning gives the girls an opportunity to take part in different activities they may not normally participate it, ensuring they become well-rounded Badminton Girls. The outdoors teaches the girls resilience, showing them that it’s ok to make mistakes and have another go, whilst learning about the environment around them.

Outdoor learning is embedded into the curriculum for younger years, and co-curricular for older pupils. Reception, Prep 1 and Prep 2 have outdoor learning throughout the year. Activities include exploring outdoor spaces, looking at nature and trips off site. The Prep School has a range of outdoor clothing for girls to wear so that they can enjoy the outdoors all year round.

When girls reach years 3 and 4, they can attend our Wild Pioneers club. Here girls can work towards eight different badges, even getting involved in badges outside of the sessions. At the end of the year, we run a summer camp, where girls can spend their first night in a tent with friends.

Trips

Trips are a vital part of how we learn. As well as extending their knowledge through hands-on learning, they develop independence, improve confidence and help to develop binds with their peers. During the academic year we visit a range of local places including SS Great Britain, Blaise Castle, Cardiff Castle, Wells Cathedral and the Botanical Gardens.

Year 4 to year 6 take part in a residential each summer, each going to a different part of the Southwest. These are a chance to experience new environment and how to be independent away from home.

Sports

Alongside the girls’ regular swimming, PE and games lessons, they can do extra sports clubs. We have a huge range of sports on offer, including netball, hockey, cricket, volleyball, climbing, judo and fencing. There are also fitness classes available for girls such as yoga and Pilates.

Some girls may be invited to join the swimming squad and compete in galas. All girls can get involved with sports fixtures with other schools as part of their game’s lessons, and we have a range of house competitions for girls to get involved in. Including sports day, cross country and our annual biathlon.

Interest Clubs

We want to ensure that there are activities for every girl to enjoy and that girls can explore a range of different interests. Some of our more diverse co-curricular offerings include Minecraft club, robotics, cultural studies, Greek dance etc.

Creative Activities

Pupils have the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of creative clubs both during and after school throughout the year including calligraphy, photography, textiles and ceramics, and local artists are invited into school each year to provide a hands-on experience of their own style and form of artwork.

Performing arts forms part of the curriculum, but girls can take part in additional lessons and clubs too. Girls can take time out of lessons to learn a musical instrument. We also have Musical Theatre, Show Choir and Pops Ensemble. Some pupils in the older years may be selected to perform in the St George’s concert. Girls make use of the recently refurbished art room for craft and DT clubs.
