Thank you for considering Badminton School for your daughter. Throughout the process our main aim is to get to know your daughter, understand what she can bring to Badminton, as well as ensuring that she leaves excited about what Badminton can offer her.
Entry to Badminton School as a boarder or a day girl is via our entrance assessments which we try and make as enjoyable as possible. There are three main components to our assessment day, all of which are important to us.
The three stages of our entrance assessments are:
This is an excellent way for us to really get to know your daughter, her passions and her interests. Where possible, your daughter will be asked to attend an in-person interview with Mrs Miles, the Head, or one of our senior members of staff. We understand that some girls may feel daunted about this part of the process, but please be reassured that our interviews are very relaxed. Their purpose is to help us build a bigger picture of your daughter, rather than relying solely on her academic aptitude. Throughout the short 10-minute interview, we will guide your daughter through the questions with a supportive approach - our aim being that she finds it a happy and engaging opportunity to express herself.
The people who know your daughter well are the teachers at her current school and we value their opinion. We request a reference from her current school to gain an insight into her current school life - another piece in our puzzle of getting to know her.
This year our assessment day for Year 7 and Year 8 applicants is being held at Badminton on Saturday 18 January 2025.
Candidates sit an English paper, an online Maths assessment, and an online Cognitive Reasoning test which helps us to understand academic potential. We are less interested in what your daughter has learnt or has revised, but more what her underlying ability and potential might be. It is for this reason that we always say that you can’t revise or practice for our assessments - potential is what we are looking for here.
So, we encourage all prospective pupils to come and try, be yourself and do your best. At Badminton it is all about what your daughter will become at the end of her journey with us, rather than what she has been taught up to now.
Overseas applicants will be invited to sit Badminton assessment exams at selected test centres around the world during October. Late applications may be considered. If overseas candidates have met the initial assessment criteria after the assessments, they will be invited for an interview with a senior member of staff via video conference.
To sit the entrance exam, you first need to register your daughter.
Our registration deadlines for entry into September 2025 have now passed, but please contact us if you have missed the deadline and would like to apply.
