This Term, the Chinese Department entered three scholars for the Mandarin Speaking Competition hosted by British Council. They are Rosa and Emily from Year 9, and Mary from Year 11. The pupils worked very hard to compete with the linguists from other parts of the UK and was challenged by highly regarded judging panel.

We are extremely proud of Rosa from Year 9, as one of the youngest in her category, went through to the finals!

All the girls gained valuable experience from the competition and showed their determination to do well in the future. See what they thought about the experience below:

This Term I took part in the British Council Mandarin Speaking Competition. With the help and support of my teacher, Ms Blood, I was very pleased to make it through to the finals. Although I did not win, I really enjoyed the experience and am looking forward to taking part again next year.

This year I had the pleasure of representing the School by taking part in a Chinese Speaking Competition. I loved the whole experience of taking part and even though I didn’t make it through to the finals I really enjoyed supporting my classmates while they competed. I would love to compete again if I had the chance!
