Badminton School students performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival again this year, the largest cultural event in the world. The group of six pupils performed 'After Troy', a Greek inspired production based on the Greek tragedy 'The Trojan Women'. The six students told a powerful story of the women left behind after the Trojan war, delicately intertwined with stories of female survivors of conflict in more recent history. The threads of each story were thoughtfully woven together, both in the writing of the story and physically, with actual threads throughout the production. Each character had her own piece of thread and when the characters shared their experiences, they wove a tapestry of survival on the stage.
Lower Sixth student, Tabitha, co-wrote the piece and took charge of the technical aspects of the performance. The group performed five shows over the course of the festival and received hugely positive press reviews that highlighted the quality of the piece overall and of the cast's portrayal of the characters. One of the critics was impressed that the group had only five days rehearsal to produce such a polished piece.
The school look forward to returning to the Fringe in 2028.
