As part of the Outduction Program after exams, a few Year 11s and Upper Sixth students have been taking part in the gardening activity with Mrs McEvoy.
We spend all afternoon on Tuesdays learning about different aspects of gardening as well as making our very own herb garden. Hopefully the herbs we have planted will grow over the summer and can eventually be used in F&N lessons as a more sustainable and eco-friendlier alternative to continuing to buy herbs from the shops.
I have really enjoyed discovering more about the School grounds and this experience has made me really appreciate the effort that the Gardeners make to keep the School looking so great. Because of the amazing weather we have had over the past few weeks it has been really important to water the newly planted herbs daily as the water evaporates extremely quickly.
In our last session we planted a bay tree in the middle of the garden and then helped the Gardeners weed the flower beds around School. I think we have all learnt a lot over the three sessions and I for one am looking forward to doing some gardening of my own over the summer.
