Year 7 pupils and their Latin teachers headed down to Bristol Museum and Art Gallery recently to visit the ‘Roman Empire: Power and People’ exhibition. After seeing the enormous scope of the Roman Empire in a video showing its stage by stage expansion, pupils explored some of the objects that signified the power and influence of this civilisation.
Pupils’ favourite objects ranged from a sculpture of a conquered barbarian, with his painfully realistic face, to an image of a Roman soldier with the animal head of an Egyptian god. Some excellent background knowledge was on display too, with Alice impressing us all with her stories about Orpheus and his lyre!
Overall, pupils had a thought-provoking and focused look at one of history’s most influential empires, as well as doing Badminton proud with their superb intellectual curiosity.
