Recently, the Year 10 and 11 girls participated in a study skills workshop called ‘Exam busters.’ Many girls were still suffering from the shock of being back in school after a lovely long holiday, but our presenter Kim soon had them buzzing with ideas of how to beat the revision blues!
The girls learned several complex (for the staff, at least!) hand exercises which involve using both sides of the brain as a great way of starting or breaking up a revision session. We also learnt a lot about how the brain works, which helped make sense of why we feel a certain way, or why we forget things!
Many of the girls surprised themselves when they tried out the memory improving techniques that Kim showed them, but the most important message that came out of the session was ‘if you tell your brain you can’t do something enough times, it will believe you!’
The afternoon was a good introduction to all the girls as they start their exam revision, and it put them in a positive frame of mind and reminded them that they can do it!
