This week saw the last virtual theatre trip as part of lockdown Drama – we took pupils from Year 7 to the Sixth Form to see the National Theatre’s performance of ‘Peter Pan’.
All children grow up, except one. When Peter Pan loses his shadow, headstrong Wendy helps him reattach it. In return, she is invited to Neverland, where Tinker Bell the fairy, Tiger Lily and the vengeful Captain Hook await. A delight for children and adults alike, Sally Cookson directs this wondrously inventive devised production of JM Barrie's classic.
‘As part of our enrichment activities, we have been watching a production of Peter Pan from the National Theatre. All I can say is: Wow! What an excellent production.
From start to finish it was gripping, dramatic and a truly exciting performance from the whole cast. I really loved how the characters created little stories within the main storyline. My favourite character was Tinkerbell who added lots of humour. The costumes and sets were used to incredible effect and the way that the characters soared above the stage was really fantastic to watch. The innocent childish nature of the performance made it a light-hearted and joyful production.
Thank you, Mr Chilcott, for setting this up for us!’
Flo, Year 7
‘Peter Pan really stood out for me more than other plays I might have watched because it was really eye catching and engaging, there was always something happening on screen that was pleasing to the eye or gave me goose bumps.
This production of Peter Pan was a bit different than I would have expected because there were lots of characters played by genders you would not expect. The props and set design were interesting because they were all used well and lots of them were quite modern things, like Tiger Lily wearing bright leopard skin leggings and the Jolly Roger being made out of a skip.
The actors were really good and although it was quite an upbeat production, they still managed to portray really strong emotions and even got some tears out of me at the end.’
