Senior School Sport

On Monday 26th June, Badminton held its first Senior School Sports Day of recent times. The competitors were all girls from Years 7 and 8, and the event was being organised and lead by the Year 10 Sports Leaders. The day started with a welcome from Mrs Rice and Miss van Os, and then the afternoon was underway. Megan was on the microphone throughout the event directing spectators and competitors to the right place at the right times. Alex and Laura were on the refreshments stall which proved to be increasingly popular as the afternoon went on and the temperature gradually increased. Yan-Yan and Emma were organising the results of each individual race, which was a very important job as it informed certificates and school records. There were also many more Year 10 Sports Leaders without whom, the day would not have run anywhere near as smoothly as it did.

The format of each race was typically that there were two races per year group, per event, and then the three girls with the fastest times from both races put together would win a sweet and a certificate. This drew out some really impressive results from a large number of girls. The Sports Leaders decided to award points to the first, second and third place in every race. The girls were awarded fifteen points for a win, ten points if they came second, and five points if they came third. At the end of the day, we counted up all of the girls’ points, and awarded a prize to the top girls in each year group. In Year 7, Amy came out top with a total of 45 points. In Year 8, Maryam and Elizabeth won the most points, and received a water bottle filled with sweets as a result. The Sports Leaders, Mrs Rice and Miss van Os decided to award Sofia in Year 7 a prize for an outstanding result in High Jump, as well as being all round supportive to her friends, and having fun while competing. Of course, the final prize of the afternoon was the House Prize. After many points gathered for every house, Murray was the house that came out on top, after many point-winning performances.

Thank you to Mrs Rice and Miss van Os, the Advertising team, the Catering staff, Maintenance team, and everyone else that helped to pull this Sports Day together, without whom it would have been a lot more stressful for the Year 10s!
