Spring Drama Showcase Spectacular!

Senior School Drama

Some beautiful dramatic work from the Year 7, 8 and 9 girls was on display in our recent Showcase performance. The evening began with ‘The White Feather’ a moving portrayal of a young relationship split apart by the patriotic fervour surrounding the First World War and of the terrible loss of life in this conflict. Rosie, Rosie, Cressie, Laura and Ella showed tremendous maturity in their sensitive approach to the piece.

The second item took us into comic territory as Leila, Olivia, Amelia, Annie and Alex presented a new take on the classic tale ‘The King’s New Clothes’. The cast gave tremendously quirky, exaggerated performances to really get the audience going!

Next a cast of twenty six boarders from both the Junior and Senior School presented their version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ with great enthusiasm for the spectacular chorus numbers, clever costume which they designed and made themselves and strong performances from the leading actors Ilia, Mildred, Yasmin, Polina, Sorcha, Alice, Maryam and Dasha.

The evening culminated with Year 9 Drama Club presenting their acclaimed ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ - sadly for the final time. This highly polished piece had its first showing at the National Shakespeare Schools Festival at the Tobacco Factory and once again it captivated the audience with the strength of its characterisation and its beautifully played comic moments. This cast have really shown what can be achieved with strong team work and a willingness to experiment and take risks!

A wonderfully varied evening showcasing what our talented girls have to offer – a joy!
