On Tuesday 15th January seven Badminton musicians gave a public concert involving chamber ensembles and soloists as part of the Clevedon Music Club concert series. The standard of playing was extremely high, and the audience were particularly impressed with the diversity of the programme, ranging from classical wind quintets to Jazz standards.
The newly formed senior wind ensemble (Anisha Parmar, Amber Lacey, Annabel Johnson, Steffi Loh) opened the concert with a performance of a Reicha wind quintet, which demanded virtuosic playing from all members and was a test of nerve at the beginning of a concert! Francesca Orlando also performed the Chopin Barcarolle with grace and poise, demonstrating great sensitivity and engagement with the piece. This was then followed by Emma Pelkiewicz singing Elgar’s sea pictures; a huge work that she controlled superbly, exploring fully the range of expressive styles demanded within the piece.
The second half began with the wind quintet adapting to become a piano quintet, with Claire Jang at the Piano. They performed the Beethoven quintet to an incredibly high standard, with all players working with great sensitivity and attention to detail within the music. Anisha then performed the Poulenc Oboe sonata accompanied by Claire, before Emma concluded the concert with a range of songs from Schubert to Gershwin. The audience were most impressed with the high musical standard of the evening, commenting on what an enjoyable evening it had been! Congratulations to all involved, with thanks for working so hard to provide such an excellent concert.
