Last Term, our Environmental Officers Tabitha and Gabriella attended the Bristol Education Partnerships annual Climate Conference. This was attended by many local Bristol Schools and sustainably focused companies, start-ups, and charities across the South West area. It was a highly educational, interesting, and connective event and enjoyed by all!
“On the 17th March, Gabi and I virtually attended a Climate Conference with lots of other representatives from different schools in Bristol. Each school gave a short presentation about what they have been doing in their eco groups and their future plans.
Gabi and I talked about what we have been doing this year in our virtual Eco Group meetings, including presentations about how different countries recycle and a discussion on the Biden presidency and the effect it may have on the environment.
We also talked about our plans in the Environmental Committee which will include trying to reduce Badminton’s energy usage and investigate who our energy suppliers are to see if we could increase the renewable energy we use. Also, we will try to engage as many people as possible, persuading them to be more sustainable which will limit the Schools’ negative impact on the environment and help make Badminton School more environmentally friendly.
There were many experts in different fields present at the conference and they even offered to help us going forward! It was really interesting to hear what other schools in Bristol are doing for the environment and it definitely gave us some more ideas to think about!”
This Term, the Environmental Committee and the Eco Group are looking to implement many initiatives mentioned above and further enhance the School’s sustainable outlook. Eco Group are currently debating the best route forward to get the whole School and wider community on board!
