The Science Outreach Team have had another busy Half Term, running a talk on states of matter as our second contribution to the Northern Ireland Science Festival 2021.
On Saturday 20th February, nine members of the Science Outreach Team hosted ‘What A State We’re In’, with a live Q&A session afterwards.
The talk is aimed at older primary and secondary pupils, but has a few surprises along the way for people of all ages, starting with familiar states such as solids, liquids, gases and plasmas before looking at how exotic states of matter can be made in particle accelerators.
‘What a State We’re In’ finishes off with an overview of superconductors, including a demonstration that was invented and published by Badminton School's Science Faculty, delivered by Julia and two of the paper’s authors – Amelia E and Nimesha!
Huge thanks go out to everyone involved in the project, including Christy, Ellie, Lucia and Alison for coordinating the video and to Christy, Alison, Tabitha, Catherine, Tammy, Sally, Chloe L, Nastasja and Jasmine for being part of the ‘live team’.
Around 20 team members present in the video, which combines performances from girls in the Lower and Upper Sixth.
Fingers crossed for a third year in a row at the Festival in 2022!
