Monday saw the first of the Drama Department's virtual Theatre Trips as part of the Spring Term's packed enrichment programme. Over 40 students from the Senior School and Sixth Form signed up to watch the National Theatre's recent adaptation of 'Treasure Island'. Alongside watching the streamed performance, we encouraged lots of commenting along the way.
Aliza, Year 8, had this to say about the production:
As part of the enrichment programme in place during the online learning period, pupils were invited to enjoy a watch along presented by the of the famous play “Treasure Island,” based on the book by Robert Louis Stevenson.
The play begins with our protagonist Jim who runs into a shade of luck when he discovers a map which is believed to lead to buried treasure, every pirate’s dream. It isn’t long before he sets sail with a few friends, and foes, in the hunt for the gold. Little does he know that there are traitors aboard filled with greed, a pirate’s greatest trait alongside curiosity.
As we left the breath-taking adaptation on the edge, unfinished, we’ll have to wait and see what happens to Jim and the rest of the pirates next time!
Sara, Year 8, said:
The Treasure Island watch-along was an amazing experience, an idea we thought was impossible due to lockdown, brought to life! Thanks to Mr Chilcott, we had the chance to watch the life of the pirates, with action as well as humorous moments, on the search for treasure and on the lookout for evil scary characters! Everyone at home with popcorn in hand, typing “Uh oh….” In the chat bar, as the villain tip toes up from behind. I can’t wait for the next session!
