The Science Outreach Team have are very excited to have been invited to participate in CERN’s Physics Tent at WOMAD Festival at the end of July. CERN are at the top of their game and are extremely well known in the world of Particle Physics thanks to their 27 kilometre long Large Hadron Collider, which discovered the Higgs Boson in 2012. The World Wide Web was invented by Tim Berners-Lee to help CERN navigate the vast quantities of data they produce back in the early 1990s so it is an honour to be invited to help them promote Physics to the wider community.
Girls from Year 10 to Year 12 will be performing over the course of the weekend. On Saturday 29th July we will be giving a special version of our liquid nitrogen show – Physics in the Freezer – which will touch on some topics such as resistance which we do not normally cover to differentiate the show from last year’s performance. On Sunday 30th July we will be running a workshop on some of the different types of magnetism; the workshop is titled ‘Are Grapes Magnetic?’ and is based on the lecture our girls gave at the Festival of Physics, run by the Institute of Physics in March at Bristol University.
