On Thursday 25th February, the Politics Department arranged an opportunity for Years 10, 11 and the Sixth Form to attend a talk and Q&A session with our local MP (and Old Badmintonian!), Charlotte Leslie, here at School.

As a keen Politics student, meeting Ms Leslie in person was an exciting experience. Not only were we able to hear about her life as a Member of Parliament, but we were able to ask her opinions on a range of topical issues, which she answered openly and honestly. For example, she articulated her view on the upcoming EU referendum and the work the UK is doing for the refugee crisis. I asked if Ms Leslie ever faced gender discrimination in her work at Westminster and, if so, how she was able to tackle such a matter. Her reply, as with so many of her other replies, was positive and encouraging, whether you agreed with her underlying politics or not.

Not only was Ms Leslie inspiring, but she motivated the students to pursue their ambitions and let the future take its course. The experience was truly memorable and I look forward to hopefully shadowing and doing work experience with Charlotte Leslie in the near future!
