Following their success in the first round of concerts in June, Megan (Year 11) and Claire (Year 13) were both selected to perform in the Final Concert held in the Great Hall of Bristol Grammar School last Friday. The Rotary Young Musicians’ Awards is an annual competition for young musicians attending Bristol schools and attracts a very high standard of performance indeed. I was delighted that two of the six finalists are pupils at Badminton.
Claire performed a programme of piano music by Scarlatti, Grieg and Debussy; the adjudicators congratulated her on her committed performance. Megan performed a programme of clarinet music by Brahms and Finzi accompanied by Mr Nash; the adjudicators were very impressed with her vibrant playing of the Finzi in particular and placed her in third place – congratulations Megan! Both girls are to be praised for the extremely high-standard of their performances given in front of a very large audience and in a highly-charged competitive atmosphere!
