Recently, Dorothy, Bea, Olga and Margaret traveled to London for the Final of the UK Team Maths Challenge. Over a thousand schools took part in the regional heats, and from these 80 teams were invited to the final. The first round involved the teams creating a poster on packing. Students researched this topic in the weeks prior to the competition and were to be judged on mathematical content, imagination, presentation and answering three unseen questions. The girls were very proud of their finished poster and felt it compared favourably with the winning attempt.

The Badminton girls performed strongly throughout the other rounds, although they were disappointed with their score in the mini-relay. Their overall mark of 155 out of 228 placed them in the middle of this field of outstanding schools, with City of London taking the 2013 title. The awards were presented by Rob Eastaway, author of many popular maths books including ‘Why do Buses Come in Threes?’ The girls felt privileged to have the opportunity to listen to such an inspiring mathematician.  Congratulations to the team for their commitment and achievement.
