During the Easter holiday a collection of new artworks has been displayed on the walls of the staircases that lead to the Maths classrooms. The six one-metre square prints are a colourful addition to the walls and were created by six Badminton Senior School pupils, as a result of a collaboration between the Mathematics and Art Departments.
The team who created these artworks included members of Digital Art Club and two of our Sixth Form Art Scholars. Asma (Year 8), Nicole (Year 9), Rhea (Year 10), Josephine (Year 8), Claire (Upper Sixth) and Yvonne (Upper Sixth) were set the design brief to create digital compositions using a particular colour palette and exploring dynamic layouts of symbols and numbers to represent mathematical theories or formulae. The six artworks are titled: Euler’s Identity, Pythagoras’ Theorem, The Harmonic Series, Combination Numbers, Sigma and Imaginary Numbers.
During weekly lunchtime workshops, the girls learned how to use different tools within Adobe Photoshop to realise their ideas and create high resolution digital images for large scale prints. The final prints are the product of many hours of learning and refinements. The girls must be congratulated for their commitment to brief and their patience in waiting to see the fruits of their labour on the walls; COVID-19 lockdowns delayed the printing and display of the work!
Thank you to the Maintenance Team for framing the large prints and installing them in their new home. If you get the opportunity to walk up the staircases leading to Mathematics, then take a look, enjoy the work and see if you can match the artworks to the mathematical theories and formulae!
