The Badminton Senior School Art Department were delighted to receive Mary Fedden Art Competition entries from five different schools from the South West this year in response to the theme 'Wonder and Wonderment'.

Wonderment is important in art; it is a state of awe and admiration. The theme conjured many fascinating and varied responses from pupils from Badminton Junior School, Perrett Hill School, The Downs School, Westbury Park School and Exeter Cathedral School.

The Runner Up prize was awarded to Genevieve from Exeter Cathedral School. Her sunflower painting is a confident and experimental piece. She visually described the flower, using colour and volume, rather than line and shape. It is an exquisite piece of painting.

The Overall Winner was submitted by Alice from The Downs School. Her painting of a night sky magnificently captured depth and space. The directional leading lines of the trees draw our eyes towards the stars. The quality of the colour blending and the application of layers of paint was very skilful. The glow and light evoked a magical scene.

These winning entries, along with many of the artworks submitted responded really thoughtfully to the theme.

In light of COVID-19, the Exhibition and celebratory prize giving took place online this year.

Well done to all of the young people who committed time and creative energy to create artwork for the 2020 competition.

We hope the Mary Fedden 2021 Art Competition can involve even more schools and that we will be able to gather once more in our Creative Arts Centre for the Exhibition to see the works first hand.
