Broadening Horizons: Coding & Women in Tech

Share
Sixth Form University or Higher Education

A few weeks ago, Maya Keeley and Yas Haghighat gave an inspiring talk on coding and women in tech. Maya is a software developer for local company Bot-Hive alongside Yas, who is a former pupil and a founding member of the company.

Pupils from multiple Year Groups attended the virtual talk and asked a lot of questions. One of these questions asked for resource recommendations for learning to code and the speakers suggested some very useful ideas including The Net Ninja, Udemy and CodeHub.

The speakers highlighted the importance of diversity in the industry, which is dominated by white men, and encouraged us to challenge this archetype. They also showed that there are many ways into the tech industry and that you do not always have to have a computer science or math degree to enjoy coding!
