This week, three of our aspiring Upper Sixth Physics pupils tested their problem-solving skills to the limit when they completed the University of Oxford ‘Physics Challenge’ Olympiad paper.

Claire, Julia and Lyra sat the hour-long examination paper, completely in the dark about what type of questions would come up, and all achieved certificates for their efforts – Julia and Lyra even managed to pass with Merit!

Questions included the ultimate tensile strength of human hair, the speed limits of a microprocessor chip, the density of a proton and the finer workings of a Campbell-Stokes sunshine recorder. Claire, Julia and Lyra have all applied to Oxford or Cambridge to study either Physics or Natural Sciences – fingers crossed for those offers! Well done girls!
