During Half Term, 12 members of the Science Outreach team went to Northern Island and performed at the NI Science Festival.
We did workshops for the first two days of the Festival at Thornhill College and Foyle College. It was wonderful to see children’s faces light up with amazement as they rotated round different stations in the workshop and learned about a few different topics. Several different schools came over and I was genuinely delighted to see students discussing what they had seen with such big smiles.
Although I felt a little tired after a long day’s work, I was hugely satisfied with us impressing and inspiring young children in science, my favourite subject! I really hope that they stay curious and hungry for knowledge like how they have shown.
We also did a show and table demonstrations in Foyleside Shopping Centre and St Georges Market. Seeing audiences so engaged and enjoying our performances truly made my day.
It was my first time participating in such a large event with the Outreach programme. As a new member of the team, a lot of training and hard work was needed to get ready for forthcoming events. With the help of peers and teachers, I went from the one being taught to the one teaching others. I am truly amazed by how much I grew and learnt in this short period of time.
Presenting wise, I guess ‘practice makes perfect’ really does apply. During the programme, as I can clearly see the hard works put in undoubtedly pays off, my confidence grew little by little without me noticing. I am truly glad that I decided to take part in Science Outreach and I hope that everyone enjoys it as much as I do.
