On Sunday 21st May, Jenny in Year 10 competed in the National Junior Badminton League Finals as part of the St Ursula’s Junior Badminton Team, who represented Avon at the event. The finals were held at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.

Eleven teams from all over the country, split into 3 pools and competed for the honour of becoming the Under-16 National Junior Badminton League Champions. The team had a lot to live up to as St Ursula’s Under-12 team had claimed the equivalent title for their age category the day before.

Over the course of the day, Jenny was one of only four of the six strong squad to play in every match, putting in an outstanding performance in every rubber that she played and competing as both a singles and a doubles player at different times. The team as a whole won their pool convincingly, whitewashing all 3 of their opponents 5-0. This saw the team comfortably through to the final where they faced last year’s winners of the event, Swifts Badminton Team. After five very close matches against some really tough opposition, the St Ursula’s Under 16 Junior Badminton team triumphed winning the tie 3-2.

Jenny is one of the best Badminton players to have played here with us and gives a huge amount back to our Badminton Club and Team, helping to coach younger players and keep us strong for the future. With her skill and dedication, it is so fitting that she has now become a National Champion in the sport.

A big thank you also goes to the travelling supporters who encouraged Jenny and helped to make the journey to the finals possible.
