Sports Day on Saturday 29th April was the first of its kind and saw pupils from Years 7 to 9 compete in athletic events to earn points for their Houses. It was an exciting opening competition with brand new School records set in every event. There was a fantastic supportive atmosphere throughout the day and events were contested with great competitive spirit.
Many of the girls gained their first experience of an Athletics competition and enjoyed taking part in some new events. Athletics is a great sport for all as the variety in events allows everyone to find an one that suits them. The initial heats on the track added excitement with the top three finishers progressing to the finals. These were hotly contested and culminated in some very close races with all finalists vying for the all-important top spot and a chance to put their name onto the record sheet.
In the field, the girls were given the opportunity to take part in discus, javelin, shot put, long jump and high jump. With many of the girls new to these events, it provided a level playing field to compete and we saw some very close contests.
All the girls showed incredible determination and effort to support their respective Houses, however, a special mention must go to Amelia (Year 7) and Lauren (Year 9) who gained two individual wins each and therefore got their names onto the new record list twice. As well as allowing individuals to shine there was also a great team element with points added to a running House total from each event. The final scores were close in the middle of the field, however, Rendall absolutely stole the show with an impressive 147 point total, 53 points clear of second place.
In addition, a fantastic £500 was raised for the new Sports Centre on the day - thank you to everyone who supported!
