On the sunny Monday morning of October 7th, the Year 9 girls gathered for a day at Bristol Zoological Gardens. They set off full off enthusiasm and eager to enjoy seeing the animals and gardens.  In a lecture at the zoo, Dan reinforced the girls’ understanding of classification by allowing them to handle examples of animals from all the different classes.  Several girls took the opportunity to hold and closely examine the Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, as an example of the class Insecta. A beautiful Rainbow Boa Constrictor, Khapua, was presented as a stunning member of the snakes. Finally they met a less exotic mammal, but still very cute, Tiger the guinea pig. After enjoying a lunch while sitting in the sun, the girls were given the opportunity to explore the zoo and visit all the animals, but were encouraged to find examples from each of the classes in the animal kingdom, to identify their key features.
