On Tuesday 6th November, Year 7 went on a geography trip to The Bristol Docks.
We got dropped off by the S.S Great Britain and to our surprise, we were led down the steps of the quay towards a small glass boat which we would be sailing on.
There were lots of seats and tables in the boat for us to sit on and it reminded us a little bit of a school, but with a bit more motion to it! Soon we all settled down to enjoy a blissfully relaxing and informative boat journey on which we travelled from the Victorian era to the present day, learning about the history of the docks and the buildings on them. We could see the docks in a whole different perspective and were told that if you carried on on the boat, you could reach London by river!
We wobbled our way off the boat and got dropped off at the opposite side of the river that we were waiting on before. We then walked around the area and rated all of the buildings and areas around @ Bristol with our own point system. We found that some of us really loved the new, modern look to the docks, whilst some of us hated it!
We were then whisked back to school for the afternoon to do a team challenge about the work we completed in the morning. We were split into six teams and each team was given a map of the docks with a big area cut out. We had to redevelop this area with all the buildings, leisure facilities and grass spaces that we wanted and do a presentation about it afterwards. It was quite hard to draw a poster in the time given and to devise a presentation about it. Each group presented their ideas and was marked by the rest of us, with the Pink team being declared the winner.
