A True Celebration of Sport

On Monday 19th March we hosted our annual Celebration of Sport.

It gives our PE community a chance to be recognised for the many achievements across all of our main sports and squads. We started the evening in the Dining Hall for dinner together before moving across to the Peace Memorial Hall for the Awards Ceremony. We were delighted to invite Josie Janz-Dawson as our guest speaker this year. Josie has had a distinguished career in her sport of Netball, spanning National honours to International competition. She was an integral part of West Coast fever in the ANZ Championships in Perth, and has recently broadened her career to play in the UK within the English National Superleague Franchises at Severn Stars and Team Bath respectively. Josie gave an inspiring talk about her sporting journey and what it takes to get to the top. She highlighted the importance of having clear goals and looking ahead to the next step. Her key message emphasised the need to be reflective on your own performances, make sacrifices and work tirelessly to make improvements and get to where you want to be. We are extremely grateful to Josie for making the time to attend and celebrate to us; she is an excellent ambassador for Netball and was an inspiration to many of our girls.

We then began our presentation of awards, which recognised Excellence, Effort and Contribution and Most Improved in our major sports of Hockey, Netball and Rounders for every age group and every squad. We also awarded prizes for Excellence, Effort and Contribution in Cross Country, Swimming, Tennis, Badminton, Fencing, Judo and Equestrian. The presentations concluded with our larger awards of the evening, a full list of which can be found on the School website. The evening came to a close with a fitting tribute to our wonderful Sports Captains, Polina, Laura and Lauren and we thanked them for their contributions over the last year. They recounted some of their sporting memories and also gave their advice to their younger peers; to make the most of all of the vast sporting opportunities here at Badminton and beyond.

Our Celebration of Sport Awards Dinner was a great opportunity to celebrate the success of every pupil, whether an award winner or not, it is the pupil’s commitment and contribution to School sport that has been the platform and driving force to the success of our subject.
