The Library Refurbishment

At Badminton we help girls to become independent learners, by encouraging reading for pleasure alongside individual learning, and our new space provides a perfect hybrid environment to host both printed and digital resources.

The contemporary library now provides a range of services to our girls, including a space for quiet, reflective study, and spaces for collaborative work. The Library is an integral part of our School and we want to embrace the new, whilst keeping the traditional use of books intact. By using the pupil’s ideas, we formed a contemporary learning space while holding on the strong architectural character of the building designed by Sir Hugh Casson.

The transformation of the library has created a drastic change in its popularity. It is wonderful to see the library full at all hours of the day. Our comfortable sofas provide a relaxing area for girls to read in at their breaktimes, and has transformed the work ethic of our girls, allowing our School to adapt to the new generations. From author visits, to talks on poetry, the refurbishment provides a buzzing atmosphere which has already succeeded in exciting the pupils in their learning.
