In September 2015 we introduced Forest School for our children in the Early Years. Each week
our youngest girls put on their special kit and wellies and visit our large
Forest School outdoor area which we are lucky enough to have on site.
So what is Forest School and what are its benefits?
Forest School takes learning outside and involves activities such as painting with mud, discovering minibeasts in our ‘bug hotel’ and creating things in our ‘mud kitchen’. We build dens, make fires and collect treasures; constantly interacting with the ever changing flora and fauna that we leave to grow naturally.
The benefits of Forest School for young children are plentiful and we fully believe in the ethos that learning is best through play. Children grow in confidence thanks to the freedom and space they are given to learn with each session child led to support our girls' individual learning
styles. Children are encouraged to develop independence and make
choices, increasing their self esteem and communication skills. The girls develop a respect for the environment from a young age and being out in the fresh air, away from the classroom, not only increases concentration and motivation when they return to class, but also boosts physical stamina.
But most importantly, Forest School is FUN!
